1. 개요 [편집]

1956년에 지정된 미국 육군의 공식 군가. 줄여서 The Army Song이라고도 부른다.

1908년 3월 필리핀에 주둔해 있던 제5 포병연대 연대가로 에드먼드 루이스 그루버[1], 윌리엄 브라이든, 로버트 댄포드가 Caisson Song을 작곡했다. 이 곡이 포병들 사이에서 인기를 끌자 포병대의 의뢰로 1917년에 존 필립 수자는 이 곡을 편곡해 U.S. Field Artillery March라는 곡을 만들었으며, 이 곡에 1918년 칼 피셔 사가 가사를 붙여 아래에 나온 버전의 Caisson Song이 나오게된다.

3. 육군의 채택 [편집]

1948년 해군, 공군, 해병대 모두 가지고 있는 공식 군가가 없던 미국 육군은 공식 군가를 정하려고 했지만 적당한 곡이 없었고, 1952년의 육군 공식 군가 공모에서 채택된 곡이 표절논란에 휩싸이자 결국 1953년에 Caisson Song을 그냥 고쳐서 쓰기로 결정했다. 그 결과 군악 장교 해롤드 월튼 알버그의 가사를 덧붙여 1956년 11월 11일 재향 군인의 날에 이 곡을 육군가로 채택했다.

5. 여담 [편집]

로버트 하인라인의 단편 소설, '도로는 움직여야 한다'에서 이 곡에 기반한 노래가 등장한다.[6]

카투사들은 기초 교육과정에 이 노래의 교육이 포함되어 있다. 따라서 한국군 군가 말고도 이 노래를 추가로 배우게 되며, 주한미군들과 이 노래를 부르게 된다.

걸즈 앤 판처에서는 선더스 대학 부속 고교와의 일전에서 BGM으로 사용됐다. 그리고 극장판에서는 선더스 대학 항공 유송과의 C-5 슈퍼 갤럭시가 착륙할 때 나온다.

몇몇 부대에서는 자신의 이 군가를 베이스로 자신의 보직에 맞게 개사하기도 한다.
유일하게 포병은 이 사례에서 예외인데, 원곡인 U.S. Field Artillery March에 1918년 최초로 붙었던 가사인 Caisson Song을 부르는데다가,
육군이 뒤늦게 50년대에 이 곡을 개사한 버전을 공식채택했기 때문. 즉, 포병이 원조고 육군이 후발주자였다.

아이언맨 2에서는 해머드론 등장 장면에 쓰였다.

행진곡 버전 편곡중 하나에 뜬금없이 프러시아의 영광이 들어간다. 듣기

[1] 이 사람의 조상들 중에 고요한 밤 거룩한 밤을 쓴 프란츠 그뤼버가 있다.[2] first to fight 는 선봉에서 싸운다는 의미이다. 미해병대가에서도 first to fight가 나오고, 네이비씰 군가에도 나머지 군대는 우리를 따라와라 이런 식의 가사들이 나온다. 자기들이 제일 먼저 앞장서서 전쟁에 나서다는 자부심이 담긴 표현이다.[3] 여기에서 보통 Two!
